Taking urban transportation is an invitation to meet the people of a city. Packed together, we struggle to find a place to sit or stand, grabbing hold of a stranger when the train abruptly stops. Today, most riders are absorbed by their phones - it can be a sea of headphones and screens. All ages are gathered together, ranging from seniors to young parents balancing their children and backpacks on their laps. It’s often a cordial ride. Occasionally, there is a disruption; when that happens, a camaraderie develops amongst the passengers that is palpable.
For me, as a street photographer, travelling on local transit is paradise. With each station stop, new subjects enter and leave. I cherish these moments and the visual opportunities they present.
