WHAT THE ROAD REMEMBERS
“What the Road Remembers” is a series of photographs taken as a passenger traveling through the San Joaquin Valley.
I grew up in this valley, and revisiting these roads—cutting through varied terrain and shifting skies—flooded me with memories of childhood. At eight years old, riding in my father’s 1950s station wagon, it felt like we were flying at 100 miles per hour. I was barely tall enough to see out the window, yet the passing landscape left an indelible impression: a magnificent blur, etched in my memory.
Through ICM photography (Intentional Camera Movement), I’ve captured those impressions—not as literal records, but as remembered sensations. Each frame is both past and present, motion and stillness—a visual echo of what the road remembers.
